Day 8: Cultivating God's Heart for Generosity

Scripture

2 Corinthians 9:6-7“Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

Prayer Prompt

“Father, thank You for Your abundant generosity towards us. I ask that You soften my heart and align my desires with Yours, that I may give not out of obligation, but out of a joyful spirit. Help me to recognize the power in cheerful giving, knowing that You love a heart that gives freely and with sincerity. Teach me to trust You with my resources, understanding that You bless those who give with open hands, and that in giving, I reflect Your great love. May my generosity be a testimony of Your grace and a blessing to those around me.”

Reflection

Today, reflect on your personal journey with generosity. Are you giving out of joy and gratitude for all that God has provided, or do you find yourself giving out of duty or obligation? Take some time to pray about how you can support your church community—whether through your tithe, offerings, or volunteer time. Remember, God calls us to give cheerfully, not reluctantly or under compulsion. Your generous contributions not only support the work of the ministry but also demonstrate your trust in God’s provision. Ask God to help you grow in your generosity, and consider how you might increase your giving in a way that reflects His heart for the church.

Application

To call Jesus “Lord” means He is in charge of every area of our lives. Everything we think of as "ours" is actually His, and we are simply stewards of what He has entrusted to us.

Start by making two lists:

  1. Your possessions: Write down everything you own — house, car, land, furniture, jewelry, appliances, etc.

  2. Your financial assets: List your bank accounts, savings, retirement, investments, etc.

Next, focus on the items that hold the most value to you. Imagine bringing them to Jesus and laying them at His feet. Pray:
“Lord, I acknowledge that this ______ is not mine, but Yours. You have rightful ownership of ______.”
As you pray, physically open your hands, symbolizing your release of ownership into His.

Then ask, “Lord, is there someone or a ministry You want me to pass this asset on to?” If you can’t pray this sincerely, it may indicate you still see yourself as the owner.

For items you’re not prompted to give away, reaffirm His ownership over them. Thank Him for trusting you with them and ask for wisdom in how to steward them for His glory!
