Buddies

Responsibilities

  • Please support and follow the directions from the lead teacher in the classroom. Our goal is to help our children with disabilities have the best experience possible. We want them to participate in as much of the lesson as they are capable of doing.

    • Examples of support: Sit with the kids during the lesson, encourage interaction, lovingly redirect, help with discipline of the child you are serving when needed.

  • Buddy Bags will be available for kids who need fidget toys to help them make it through class. If your buddy does not receive one but you feel it would benefit them please speak to the children’s pastor.

Additional Policies and Procedures

  • Greeting - Remember to always greet with a smile and make the child’s arrival smooth and comfortable. Many parents of children with disabilities will have a heightened sense of protectiveness, so please consider this as you are greeting the family.

  • If you need assistance for any reason, please let your pastor know.

  • Every child must be checked in with a name tag. We must keep safety a priority and always have a point of contact.

  • If parents arrive after Check-In is closed, they will be encouraged to come back next week, but children cannot come into the classroom without a name tag. Please contact your pastor if you have any issues with this procedure.

  • Every name tag must be checked at dismissal.

  • If the parent does not have a security tag to pick up, they must fill out a Yellow Form and you will take a picture of their ID to send to your pastor immediately. Child can then be released to their parent, IF there is no concern.

    • IF there is cause for concern, please let the pastor know that their presence is needed and have the parent wait for the pastor to come and release the child.

  • Bathroom policy – Only an adult woman (18 yrs+) can walk a child to the restroom.

  • If a parent has filled out the Buddy Request Form, they have given permission for you to take their child into the hallway or a separate area to give them a quiet space. ONLY these kids can leave the room under supervision for any reason other than a restroom break.
