Day 3: Returning To Our First Love
Scripture
Revelation 2:4 – “Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first.”
Prayer Prompt
“Lord, I come before You, acknowledging that I have sometimes lost the devotion and love I once had for You. Reveal any areas where I have grown distant or distracted. Stir my heart once again with a fresh passion for You, and help me return to the simplicity of loving You with all my heart. Renew my devotion and help me to prioritize You above all else. Holy Spirit, rekindle the fire of my first love for You, and restore the joy and passion of my relationship with You.”
Reflection
In Revelation 2:4, Jesus gently confronts the church in Ephesus for forsaking the love they had at first. This is a powerful reminder that our relationship with God isn’t meant to be based on routine or obligation, but on deep, passionate love. Think back to when you first encountered God's love. What was your heart like? What did it feel like to experience His presence in fresh ways, to be captivated by His grace and mercy?
Today, take a moment to reflect on whether your love for God has grown cold or become more about duty than devotion. Are there distractions, unmet expectations, or even spiritual complacency that have taken the place of that first love? What small steps can I take today to prioritize Him in my life again and rekindle that first love?
Application
Step 1: Set Aside 5 Minutes
Carve out just 5 minutes in your day to sit quietly before God—whether in the morning, during a break, or in the evening. This small moment is about being still and present with Him.
Step 2: Reflect on His Love
In those 5 minutes, reflect on God's love for you. Think about a time when you felt close to Him, when His love felt fresh and real. Thank Him for those moments.
Step 3: Reconnect Through Prayer
Spend the remaining time simply talking to God. Tell Him you want to return to your first love, and ask Him to renew your passion for Him. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you prioritize Him in your daily life.
