Day 13: Humility, The Attraction of Heaven
Scripture
Isaiah 66:1-2 – “Thus says the Lord: ‘Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool; what is the house that you would build for me, and what is the place of my rest? All these things my hand has made, and so all these things came to be, declares the Lord. But this is the one to whom I will look: he who is humble and contrite in spirit and trembles at my word.’”
Prayer Prompt
"Heavenly Father, You are sovereign and exalted—Your throne is in heaven, and the earth is but Your footstool. You are not impressed with human-made structures or accomplishments. What You desire is a heart that is humble and dependent on You, a heart that trembles at Your word. I come before You today acknowledging my need for You in every area of my life. May I tremble at Your word today, not just in reverence but in obedience. Let this fast deepen my dependence on You, aligning my heart with Yours. May my humility capture Your attention and invite Your presence into every part of my life."
Reflection
As you go about your day, take a moment to reflect on what truly captures God’s attention. In Isaiah’s vision, He isn’t looking for grand displays or impressive achievements, but for a heart that is humble, dependent upon Him, and in awe of His word. Ask yourself: Are you depending on God today in every moment? Do you feel the weight of your need for Him, recognizing that apart from Him, you can do nothing? How does His word shape the way you live and respond? Just as fasting calls us to rely on God, it reminds us of how desperately we need Him. Today, let your actions and thoughts reflect that deep dependence, trusting that God sees and values the heart that humbly surrenders to Him.
Application
This spiritual practice not only increases your vocabulary in adoration and praise but also deepens your understanding of God's character and nature, reminding you why you can place your full trust and dependence on Him.
Start with the letter 'A' and think of as many words as you can to describe God—words like awesome, Abba, affirming, always, alive, abundant, accepting, active, absolute, abiding, amazing... Then move on to the letter 'B' and continue in the same way.
When you're ready, pray your ABC list out loud: "God, You are ___________."
Over time, your list will grow, expanding your vocabulary in praise and adoration of God, reminding you of who He is and why you can put your faith in Him.
