Day 16: Seeking God’s Apostolic Heart
Scripture
Acts 13:2-3 – “While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, 'Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.' So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off.”
Prayer Prompt
“Lord, just as the early church in Acts was set apart for Your work through prayer and fasting, I seek Your heart for what You are calling me to. Stir in me a passion for Your Kingdom and a desire to be sent according to Your will. Help me to be attentive to the Holy Spirit, obedient to Your prompting, and ready to step out in faith wherever You lead. May I align my heart with Your apostolic purpose, willing to go, to serve, and to proclaim the Gospel, no matter the cost. Fill me with the courage and boldness to be part of Your great mission in the world.”
Reflection
In Acts 13:2-3, we see the early church actively seeking God's direction through prayer, fasting, and worship, resulting in a clear commissioning of Barnabas and Saul for their apostolic mission. This moment reminds us that God’s heart for the world is expansive, and He calls us to be part of that mission, whether near or far. Seeking God's apostolic heart isn’t just about being sent to distant places; it’s about aligning our hearts with His purpose for reaching others, making disciples, and expanding His Kingdom. As we seek His heart, we must be open to His leading, ready to step out in obedience, and willing to sacrifice for the sake of the Gospel. Today, reflect on how God might be calling you to partner with His mission in a deeper way, whether through prayer, action, or service.
Application
Today, take time to listen for God’s direction in your life, just as the believers in Acts 13:2-3 were set apart for specific work through prayer and fasting. Set aside a few minutes to pray, asking God if there’s a mission or ministry He is calling you to—whether it’s within your church, your community, or beyond. It could be something small, like helping someone in need, or something larger, like supporting missions or outreach. Be open to where God is leading, and make yourself available to serve. Just as the early church was sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s prompting, ask God to help you have an apostolic heart that is willing to go wherever He calls, ready to further His kingdom.
