Day 17: Sacrificial Giving
Scripture
2 Corinthians 8:3-4 – “For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own, they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the Lord’s people. And they exceeded our expectations: They gave themselves first of all to the Lord, and then by the will of God also to us.”
Prayer Prompt
“Heavenly Father, thank You for the incredible example of generosity we see in the Macedonian believers in the book of Corinthians, who, despite their own trials, gave sacrificially to support others. Lord, we ask that You would stir our hearts with the same selfless spirit. Teach us to give not just out of our abundance, but with a heart of sacrifice, trusting You to meet our needs. Help us to see the joy in giving, knowing that our generosity not only blesses others but brings glory to You. May we never be driven by obligation, but by a deep love for You and for others. Lord, transform our hearts and our mindset, that we might reflect Your heart of giving in all we do.”
Reflection
As we reflect on the example of the Macedonian church, we are challenged to examine our own hearts and our approach to giving. Are we giving out of abundance, or are we willing to give sacrificially, even when it costs us something? The beautiful truth in this scripture is that giving with a generous heart does not depend on our circumstances; it’s about the posture of our hearts. Today, consider where God is inviting you to give. Is there an area in your life where He is calling you to step out in faith, trusting Him to provide as you give sacrificially? Let this be a reminder that true generosity flows from a heart that trusts God's provision, and through our sacrifices, His kingdom advances.
Application
Today, take a step to act on the principle of sacrificial giving. Consider an area in your life where you might be holding back—whether it’s your finances, time, or talents—and ask God how He is calling you to give in a way that costs you something. Perhaps there’s someone in need—whether in your church, community, or beyond—whom you can bless in a tangible way, even if it requires personal sacrifice. You might feel a bit uncomfortable or stretched, but remember that God doesn’t just want our excess; He wants our hearts! As you step out in faith, trust that God will honor your sacrifice and provide for your needs, just as He always does. Take time today to prayerfully consider how you can give beyond what is comfortable and make a lasting impact.
